John's Quality Butchers was started by John Goddard in September 1992. John has been in butchering for 40 years, starting out in Leeds with the national company Dewhurst in 1969. Over the next 20 years he worked for several private butchers before returning to manage another Leeds store. Within the next two years he moved up the ranks and became District Manager of the Peterborough District, then moved to take over the Norwich District.

 

In 1992 Dewhurst started a restructuring programme and he was given the opportunity to buy one of their shops in Downham Market. So in September 1992 John's Quality Butchers was opened.

Since taking over the shop it has gone from strength to strength. The shop started off being run by John and a part timer who only worked 1 day a week. Within six months he had three more staff and now employs eight staff.

  • All our pork and pork products are Free Range eg pork pie meat and sausages
  • Wide range of local English and continental cheeses along with a wide range of delicatessen products
  • All our cooked meat is cooked on the premises

The shop has expanded and diversified to meet the needs of its customers. It has a thriving and expanding catering dept supplying local restaurants, pubs and nursing homes.

We have now got a busy baking dept which makes all our own pies, both savoury and sweet. We also bake a wide variety of cakes and scones along with celebration cakes to order.

We also sell a wide range of fruit and veg, much of it sourced locally.
